Empowering 50,000 people with disabilities

The federal government says 50,000 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) will benefit from its conditional cash transfer to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Executive Secretary, National Commission of Persons with Disability, James Lalu, at a press conference in Abuja weekend, said data collection for beneficiaries would commence today.

Fair hearing for Kanu

The President of the Customary Government of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Emeka Emekesiri, weekend commended the federal government for “the opportunity for fair hearing” given to the rearrested IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Emekesiri spoke at a virtual conference with the theme ‘The Arrest of Nnamdi Kanu: What Next for the Biafra Struggle’, organized by Elombah TV. He said if the Federal Government “wanted to kill him (Kanu), they had enough time to do so. Let the course of law prevail in his case”.

49 arrested in Yoruba nation protest

The Lagos State Police Command Sunday paraded 49 suspects arrested at the ‘Yoruba nation’ protest. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu, paraded them at the command headquarters.

The protesters had on Saturday staged a protest at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, Lagos. They were dispersed by security men. The CP explained that the suspects were arrested for violating the ban that no rally or gathering should hold in Lagos State.

FCTA demolishes 400 illegal structures on airport corridor

The Federal Capital Territory Administration Sunday demolished over 400 illegal structures posing a security threat along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road to enhance security of lives and property in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the demolition, which affected Lugbe-Across, Lugbe-Berger, Car wash and Lugbe Zone 5, lasted for eight hours with heavy security personnel to avoid breakdown of law and order.

3rd COVID-19wave hangs over economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed concern on some issues that, it says, may significantly affect the pace of Nigeria’s economic recovery if measures are not taken.
